Earlier in our vacation I had the worst filet mignon dinner I've ever eaten (at a very upscale establishment), and they charged $48 for it! This was at a restaurant the hotel concierge recommended. The only consolation was that she also gave us a $50 certificate to use there. Now, when we asked her about the also famous Mama's Fish House she wasn't very impressed. Aha! So we stopped on the North Shore to have lunch.
Thank God we did! Not only was it the best meal of our vacation, it was one of the best meals we had ever had. We also overheard the couple at the table next to us listing their all time favorite restaurants, Commanders Palace being one of them. The first thing you notice at Mama's is the location. I can't imagine what the property is worth.
Next is the impeccable attention to detail in the architecture, design, and decor of the restaurant. The leaf embossed walkway...
...the gecko tiles (Hawaiians consider geckos good luck).
There were no outer walls to the restaurant. This was our view of the "courtyard" area.
The interior was completely covered in a mixture of hand-carved woods.
The two servers were absolutely wonderful and the food was so fresh and delicious! They print daily menus and list where, by whom, and on what boat your fish was caught. Hello, fresh!
I had the "Mahimahi caught by Major Day along the North Shore of Maui Stuffed with lobster, crab, Maui onion and baked in a macadamia nut crust." It was perfect!

What a great ending to our escape to paradise!
