Day 7- Heading Back to the Hale

We had decided to bring our coconut with us when we set out this morning just in case we ran into someone who could open it for us. As luck would have it, there was a sweet little stoner selling fruit and coconuts and charged us a small fee for whacking off the top with a machete and giving us a straw. She was also very impressed with the size of our coconut. The water inside is not as sweet as you'd expect, but we saved it for possible drink creations after dinner.

Even the plants have plant. This succulent was growing in a tree.We stopped to check out the black sand at Hamoa Beach.

The tiniest flower I've ever seen....is that krill?

A masterfully disguised crab about the size of a dime.

After realizing there was no cell phone reception on this side of the island, we assured our Canadian friends (remember the wreck) that once they reached Hana surely there would be some assistance at the hana airport, maybe even another Hertz office. We found the Hana airport.Kerry made us a nice dinner that we enjoyed out on the porch. It didn't occur to me that I was going to have trouble finding ground meat in Pa'ia. The grocery there had an entire wall dedicated to alternative milk products, and there was fresh wheat grass available in the deli; but we had to settle for frozen meatballs (one of the only real meat products) for our spaghetti dinner. Of course, the fresh avocado in our salad totally made up for it.

Have you ever tried to open a coconut sans machete? It took a while and created some blisters, but we were able to bring all the meat back home for a coconut shrimp dinner.

My cup overfloweth with fresh juice from the three oranges we had. Aaaaahhhh, good!

This big ol' grapefruit stepped up to the plate and produced another 2 cups of juice for us for breakfast!
