Mardi Gras in Metairie

We headed out to Metairie for Mardi Gras Day. We were running late, again, but Aunt Rene' had a spot in her driveway waiting for us just a few blocks away. Halleluiah! We met Nan and her family out on Veterans. Ian started the day out a little pouty, but warmed up pretty quickly after his first freshly caught Moon Pie. Plus he got to hang out with his friend, Avery. There were lots of fun floats for the kids to look at.
By now, Max had his whole parade strategy down. This fellow was a favorite among the riders. I don't know if he just happened to know someone on every float, or if he was a good target. Either way, he caught tons and kindly gave the majority of his throws to all of the kids around him.

Ian was very proud of his spear and whacked us all pretty good to show his enthusiasm.
Holding out until the end.
Neon green shades, Mardi Gras beads, and a handful of
Chee-Wees... life is good!
After the crowds started to thin, the wind could really blow through and bring with it lots of trash. Max was mortified by the litter. He said, "If this was my city, I'd sue!" I explained to him about the street cleaners that come through, but the trash was blown several blocks off the parade route as well.
We made our way back to Aunt Rene's with our loot. We couldn't carry any more if we tried. That seemed to be the consensus looking at all of the beads left on the ground after the parade.
Now we just had to decide what to bring back to Texas!
