One day it seemed like every butterfly had emerged at the same time. All different species, too. They shared the sweet smelling ligustrums, which flank the front porch, with the bees. Ian enjoyed watching all the activity. He would make the most dramatic scared/surprised face, point, and shout "Bug!"

Bees and Butterflies
It seems like there is much more life in our garden this year than in previous ones. Then again, last year Ian was still an infant and we didn't go out back a lot. The year before I was pregnant and it got up to 108 degrees. The 4 summers before that I was working full time. (Just one more benefit of staying home.) Our new morning routine consists of having breakfast on the patio and taking a tour of the yard. We water the plants that need watering, and sometimes Ian decides to water me when I'm not looking!

These were some of my favorite butterflies to watch. One with curly blue wingtips seemed to be freshly hatched. Her wings were still moist and she would rub them together.
