I'm a little OCD with my pruning. I'm always cutting something in the garden; but with no rhyme or reason. I read that dead-heading the roses just under the bloom (after it is spent) conserves the plant's energy while leaving as many leaves intact for photosynthesis. And any branches or stems that look dead get cut off ASAP.
I'll try to be more diligent about doing that. I know roses are supposed to be cut back in February (I usually do it the week of Mardi Gras whenever it should happen to fall.) but I feel bad cutting it back too much.
Staying at home is harder than going to work! Things can get out of control very quickly if I'm not on my toes. Three boys (make that four)keep me very busy every day!

I so need your help with my roses. I love roses, but can't seem to do much with them. Do you cut them back each year?
